The Bodega Contador story starts in 1995 when Benjamin Romeo acquired a centuries old cave hewn into the rock beneath the Castle of San Vicente de la Sonsierra (Rioja). In 1996, he made the first vintage of his “La Cueva del Contador” wine from this vineyard and started to buy other nearby properties.
In the following years, he carried out small scale vinifications in the cave and continued to acquire vineyards, making the first vintage of “Contador” in 1999. Romeo's step onto the main stage came with wine critic Robert Parker’s reviews of the 2004 and 2005 vintages of Contador, which Benjamin made in his parent's garage. These two vintages were both awarded an incredibly coveted 100 points and thrust Romeo into an elite class of winemakers.
We are honored to host Mr. Romeo at Wine Whisperer on Saturday, November 4 at 7 pm. We will be featuring seven of his incredible wines, including the 2016 and 2019 vintages of Contador alongside a paired tasting menu from our culinary team. If you're a fan of Rioja or an avid collector, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will not come our way again.
Seats are very limited. $195 per person (plus tax).
